Zamioculcas - Low light plant

If you're looking for a plant that can grow in low light conditions or even in total darkness at times, if you need a plant that can flourish with a small amount of watering once in two weeks, I should introduce you to my favorite indoor plant: the Zamioculcas, also known as zz-plant. I call it Zamio, anyway :-)

Zamio is quite unique. When it comes to light level demands the Zamio is very modest, yet when it comes to size and beauty it is very generous. Its branches are typically 1'-2' long (30-60 cm) with nice dark green or light green leaves.

The only thing Zamio is spoiled at is watering, but in its own unique way; do not water a Zamioculcas too much or its roots may rot and die… I give Zamio approximately 200ml of tap water once a week or two. It's best to check the soil with your finger and refrain from watering as long as the soil is moist.

Low light levels do not worry a Zamioculcas plant. In fact, it's amazing to see the vitality and development of new branches in a room with absolutely no natural light and only a fluorescent or an incandescent bulb lighting the room.
